Relaxing With Friends!

May 3, 2017 Kristi Hensley

Relaxing can be very hard for some people.  How do you relax?  For 7 women who all have various careers, and mothering responsibilities it looks like this.

We piled into two cars with suitcases food and crafts, then drove 4 hours away from our families.  Some left young children, others left teenagers, but all of us left our responsibilities behind for 3 days with no cell service.

For some this was not their first trip of this nature, and others had never been totally removed from the responsibilities of life.  As the first day came to the end we all probably drank a few more drinks than needed, but the relaxing process was taking place.

The second day was about getting to know everyone and hearing each persons story. Some were detailed others were more quiet and private, but the feel was very pure. You are in a safe place and you can share what you would like or just be present for someone else.  This process was very healing for many, the vulnerability piece to this process was truly amazing.  Here is a room full of women who had spent very little time together but the stories told were very real.  Why in life do you connect with certain people and others it never happens?

As the day progressed we did some crafts, went for a hike, laughed, cried, and smiled.  No one was concerned about their hair, no make-up was needed, and meals were simple, but the bonds which were created were amazing.

This trip was a celebration for a friends birthday, but the real gift was not what she got but what she gave the people around her.  Peace, tranquility, safe place and a chance to let all the worldly guards down we carry with us from scares, tragedies, and traumas.

So what can you learn from this post?  Find a community within your life where you can stop the worry, responsibilities, and struggles for just a short time. This can be the best reset button many people ever get.

For me this experience brought a healing element to my world, I was able to tell my story, in a safe and loving place free from judgement and punishment.

Even if you don’t know how to open up and be vulnerable to new people, start small, find a therapist who you feel comfortable with, then watch as your world begins to open like a flower, and enjoy the journey!  If you would like more techniques on how you can relax and unwind, contact Safe Place Healing at 970-541-0890.
